The 21st edition of the Brno Open took place in Brno’s Starez Arena Vodova from 6 to 8 October 2023, which once again ranked among the biggest competitions in dance sport in Europe. This year’s edition brought to Brno again the complete world’s top dancers in standard and Latin American dances. The culmination of all the competitions was the U21 World Championship in Latin-American dances and the European Championship in standard dances for professionals, which took place in the Czech Republic for the first time ever!
More than 120 dance couples from 40 countries and 4 continents participated in these championships.
The Czech Republic was successfully represented by dancing pairs Jonáš Tománek- Šárka Kosmáková at the U21 World Championships in Latin, who fought their way to the finals and placed 6th. David Odstrčil- Tara Bohak at the European Professional Standard Championships, they finished a close second.
Twin Cities Cup
Equally important for Brno was the Partner Cities Cup, in which teams from our partner cities Bratislava, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Kaunas, Vienna and of course the home city of Brno took part.
The Saturday gala evening was conducted by moderator Jan Onder. The programme featured a performance by singer Roman Vojtek and stars of the TV show Stardance. For younger and older age groups there were also accompanying international ranking competitions, so the audience was presented with a truly diverse range of dancing couples of all ages from all over the world.
A record 800 couples from all corners of the world will take part in this year’s event. Czech Television has produced a total of 3 TV programmes from this event.
