We are delighted that such an important dance event is coming to Brno. As a company with a long industrial tradition in Brno, we welcome the opportunity to support local culture, especially on a global scale.

Show dance is a dance discipline that offers more than just technique and rhythmic precision. It is a world where dance becomes a story.

Dance couples choose their music, create choreography, and infuse it with emotion, ideas, and imagination. The audience is enchanted and satisfied by the mix that the dance couple offers in their Showdance…

How does showdance work?

Unlike traditional competitions, dance couples must combine at least three different dances from standard or Latin American disciplines during a single show.
All of this must be woven into a coherent concept – a dramatic story, film motif, or artistic expression.

An interesting fact is that showdance allows so-called lifts, i.e., lifts and acrobatic elements that are strictly prohibited in regular competitions.

Thanks to them, show dance is unique in its dynamics and tension, reminiscent of a theater or film performance.

We most often encounter this dance style on television screens in the dance show StarDance, where couples tell their story through dance.

The World Latin Dance Championships, which will take place on 18 October 2025 at the Starez Arena Vodova in Brno as part of the Brno Open festival, will have bright stars in the Czech team: Jakub Lipowski and Tereza Kučerová. This couple has risen to the top of the world in recent years, and their participation on home soil is expected with great interest – not only from dance enthusiasts, but also from the public, who will get the opportunity to watch the world’s top dancer right in the Czech Republic.

Jakub Lipowski
Originally from Poland, he has been in the Latin dance world for a long time and is a multiple champion of his country.
He has experience in the final rounds of the most prestigious competitions, including GrandSlam and international championships.

Tereza Kučerová
One of the most important Czech dancers in Latin, more than nine times champion of the Czech Republic.
She also has extensive experience on the international stage – final participations, semi-finals of championships, European and world propositions.

As a couple
The joint results of this couple are impressive: 5th place at the European Adult Latin Dance Championships (Calvia, Spain) 2025.
Placing around 7th place in the WDSF World Ranking in Latin, which is an excellent performance by Czech standards.

Lipowski & Kučerová will be aiming for the final and ideally among the top 6 couples in the world.
A quality performance can be expected, especially if everything goes according to plan – training, mental preparation and support.

Three winners of the popular StarDance TV show will come together in one place to celebrate the beauty of Latin dance. In addition to top competition performances, the audience can look forward to exclusive performances, moderation by famous faces and a rich accompanying programme.

Veronika Lálová: Samba brasil
The highlight of the evening will be the performance of Veronika Lálová, who won the 7th season of StarDance with Zdeněk Piškula in 2016.
Veronika will dance the iconic Brazilian samba at the World Championships.

“Dancing with Zdeněk Piškula was one of the greatest experiences of my career and when the offer came to dance my beloved samba at the World Championships, I didn’t hesitate for a minute,” says Veronika Lálová, who has been a professional dancer, choreographer and judge since StarDance.

Jan Onder as a presenter: two-time winner and dance scene stalwart
Jan Onder, who won StarDance twice – in 2008 with Dana Batulkova and two years later with Kateřina Baďurova, will guide the audience through the evening. He has subsequently worked as a coach, judge, choreographer and presenter.
Onder, who will be standing alongside another ‘Stardance TV participant Kamila Tománková, is known for his natural charm, sense of humour and deep knowledge of the dance environment, so expect not only an engaging host but also an insider’s view behind the scenes of the championship.

“I look forward to being part of such a special event. The World Latin Championships is not only a sporting competition, but also a celebration of movement, rhythm and human expression,” said Jan Onder. “Moreover, I will meet great colleagues with whom we share not only dance but also friendship.”

Dominika Rošková – championship ambassador and winner of the Slovak Let’s Dance
The third winning face who will appear at the event is Dominika Rošková, a professional dancer who shone in Slovakia this year. Together with her partner, she dominated the latest series of Let’s Dance, the Slovak version of StarDance, and impressed the audience not only with her technique but also with her distinctive charisma.

At the World Championships in Brno, Dominika will act as an official ambassador, which includes representing the event in the media, participating in accompanying activities and also supporting young dancers.

“It’s an honour and a joy for me. Dance is my life and to be part of such a prestigious international championship is a dream come true. I believe that the event in Brno will be an inspiration for thousands of people – not only for the dancers, but also for the public, who may fall in love with dance thanks to it,” said Rošková.

World competition and cultural event of the year in Brno
The World Latin Dance Championships will attract the best couples from more than 40 countries to Brno. Five traditional dances will be competed in: samba, cha-cha, rumba, paso doble and jive.

The organizers expect thousands of spectators and believe that the event will contribute not only to the popularization of sports dance, but also to strengthening the cultural prestige of Brno as a host city.

The day will also include an accompanying programme for the public, including dance workshops, autograph sessions, performances by junior talents and exhibitions dedicated to the history of dance.

Dance couple Martin Fried and Šárka Kosmáková have qualified for the World Latin Championships – the grand finale in Brno awaits them

Czech dance scene celebrates another great success.
The young and ambitious dance couple Martin Fried and Šárka Kosmáková have qualified for the prestigious WDSF World Championships in Latin American dance, which will take place on 18 October 2025 in Brno.

They won their way to the World Championships thanks to their excellent performance in the WDSF Rising Stars rank list, where they were among the most successful couples of the season.

The way up:
From regional competitions to the world dance floor
Martin and Šárka have been dancing as a couple for just over a year and their interplay on the dance floor is the result of countless hours on the dance floor, hard work, discipline and passion for Latin dance.

This year they have shone at several international competitions under the banner of the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), where they have gradually built up the respect of the jury and the audience.

In the competition of hundreds of couples from all over the world, they managed to establish themselves among the elite of the Rising Stars category.

“It’s a dream come true for us. The World Championship on home soil is a huge motivation and commitment. We will do our best to represent the Czech Republic in the best possible way,” said Martin Fried after the nomination was announced.

This year’s World Latin Championships will be hosted by Brno’s Vodova Hall, which will be transformed into an international dance scene with dozens of couples from all over the world in mid-October. It is a unique opportunity for home fans to see the world’s top Latin dancers with their own eyes – and cheer on their favourites at the same time.

“The home environment is a huge advantage for us. The support of the audience can do wonders and we believe that the atmosphere will be unforgettable,” adds Šárka Kosmáková.

Czech dance sport hopefuls
Martin and Šarka’s qualification for the world championship is not only a personal triumph, but also proof of the growing quality of Czech dance sport. Their success motivates young dancers and reminds them that even from the Czech Republic it is possible to break through to the world stage – if one does not lack determination, talent and tireless work.

The organisers of the World Championships are expecting a record turnout of both dancers and spectators. It will be the biggest competition challenge yet for the Czech couple, but also an opportunity to write the next chapter of their story.

Jan Metlický and Ela Odstrčilová have been a solid duo since the second half of 2018, when they teamed up in DSP Kometa Brno.

Jan has been dancing since he was eight years old.
He comes from Sokolov, where he also started dancing under the guidance of Mr. Bahník. Over time, he passed through the Prague dance club MZ Dance Team to finally find his dance address in Brno Kometa, where today he not only dances, but also passes on his experience to younger dancers as a coach.

Ela has been dancing since she was seven years old.
She took her first dance steps in the preparatory school of the dance club DSP KOMETA BRNO, where her mother brought her.
Ela has a great passion for dance fashion and styling, which she is now doing, and she helps young dancers preparing for dance competitions with their make-up.

After a few months Honza and Ela together won silver at the Czech Championship in standard dances up to 21 years and the title of Czech champions in the combination of standard and Latin American dances of the same category.

The year 2025 was a turning point for them. They managed to win the title of Czech Champions in Combined and Showdance in the adult category and added the title of Czech Vice-Champions in standard dances!

The upcoming World Showdance Championship is an opportunity for Honza and Ela to make their mark on the world’s top dancers and we believe that they will proudly carry the Czech flag and make the audience in Brno’s Vodova hall happy on October 18th….

Showdance Standard World Championships 2025: a historic event

As part of the Brno Open 2025 festival, which will take place from 17 to 19 October in Brno’s Starez Arena Vodova, the World Standard Dance Showdance Championships will be held for the first time in the Czech Republic. It will be held simultaneously with the World Latin Championships

The key day is Saturday 18 October 2025 – the programme will culminate in a gala evening with the final performances of both championships and an accompanying programme. The event will include the semi-finals and finals of Showdance, star performances from the popular TV show Stardance and more.

The road to the world stage
Tomáš and Sabina have been among the absolute top of the Czech dance scene for several years. Their interplay, technique and charisma on the dance floor make them one of the most prominent names of the current dance generation. Representing the Czech Republic at the World Championships at home is not only an honour but also a challenge for which they are preparing intensively.

Not only dance partners
What makes their performances special is not only their professional harmony, but also their mutual understanding off the floor. In addition to their successful dance career, Tomas and Sabina manage to train successful dance couples in their dance club IDANCE Ostrava.

The Brno Open continues its cooperation with the Emil Foundation. Dance becomes a space for inclusion

The Brno Open International Dance Festival is expanding its activities and entering a new phase. Starting this year, it is officially cooperating with the Emil Foundation, an organisation that has been supporting children and young people with disabilities through sport for more than two decades.

The common goal is to create a space where dance connects, inspires and breaks down barriers.

Combining professional sport and aid

Brno Open, a prestigious competition in standard and Latin American dance, attracts hundreds of competing couples from all over the world every year.
This year, however, it brings a deeper dimension to the dance world – an expansion of the social overlap that connects professional performance with humanity.

“Dance has great power – it can unite people across ages, nationalities and abilities.
Cooperation with the Emil Foundation is a natural step for us.
We want to open up Brno Open to those who may have stood on the sidelines until now,” says Jan Tománek, one of the festival’s organisers.

The Emil Foundation helps children and young people with disabilities to play sports, compete and dream.

His key project is the Emil Open – the European Games for Disabled Youth, hosted annually by Brno. The cooperation with the Brno Open thus connects two important Brno events and underlines that the city of Brno is an open and inclusive centre of culture and sport.

What will the cooperation bring?

The joint activities will take several forms:

Dance performances by disabled children and young people as part of the Brno Open programme – as guests or as part of ceremonies.

Educational workshops and discussions on inclusion, movement and prejudice against people with disabilities.

Opportunity for Emil supported athletes to participate in workshops and training sessions led by professional dancers.

A joint fundraising event with proceeds going to support young dance talents with disabilities.

The first concrete performances are planned for this October, when Brno will host the WDSF World Latin Dance Championships as part of the Brno Open 2025.

Dance as a tool for change

“With this partnership we want to show that dance is not just a competition for technique and medals. It is a language of the body, joy and connection.
And this is regardless of our possibilities or limitations,” adds Jan Tománek.

The beginning of a long-term cooperation

The organizers of both institutions believe that this is not a one-off project, but the beginning of a permanent connection between the dance and inclusive scene in the Czech Republic. In the future, they plan to be involved in other events, including school programmes, inclusive festivals or the joint project “Dancing with Emil”.

Veronika Lálová is a renowned Czech dancer who became famous for winning the StarDance 2016 competition alongside Zdeněk Piškula and participating in the 2018 finals with David Svoboda. She is a multiple champion of the Czech Republic in couples and solo salsa and an international class holder in Latin-American and standard dances. Carnival samba is her heart’s affair, which she studied directly in Brazil .

Ritmo Factory is a dynamic drum show that draws inspiration from Brazilian samba and other world rhythms. The group is known for its energetic performances that combine music, dance and visual effects.
